Arches National Park is named after the more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches throughout the park, including the iconic Delicate Arch. This area contains the highest density of natural arches in the world. Located in the high desert of the Colorado Plateau, the park receives an average of less than 10 inches of rain each year. Arches park is above an underground evaporite layer of salt bed, which is the main cause for the arches, spires, balanced rocks, sandstone formations, and eroded monoliths.
