Bryce Canyon National Park, despite its name, is actually a collection of massive amphitheaters along the eastern Paunsaugunt Plateau, rather than a canyon. The area was named after Ebenezer Bryce, a Mormon pioneer who homesteaded there in the 1870’s, and was designated a national park in 1928. Its unique landscape is covered with hoodoos, which are tall thin spires of rock formed by weather and stream erosion of sedimentary rock.
