Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park gets its name from the often dark canyons of the gorge, some of which receive as few as 33 minutes of total sunlight per day. There are two entry points to the park: Montrose in the west of the South Rim, and Crawford in the east of the North Rim. The park contains some of our planet’s oldest exposed rock, including Precambrian rock that is estimated to be nearly 2 billion years old.
