Crater Lake National Park takes its name after a remnant of Mount Mazama, a destroyed volcano – called a caldera – which reflects the surrounding hills and forests of Oregon. The lake is the deepest in the United States, resulting from the violent volcanic eruption and collapse of the Mazama. Adding further to the parks strangeness, the lake has no streams flowing into or out of it, and is replenished only by precipitation and lowered by evaporation.
