Great Sand Dunes National Park takes its name after the tallest and widest sand dunes in North America, some of which reach a height of 750 feet. The park is located along the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley and a national preserve in the Sangre de Cristo Range, which is a portion of the Great Sand Duness. The park is considered a high elevation desert at nearly 7,700 feet.
