Mesa Verde National Park is named after the flat top mountains, or mesas, that can be colored green by juniper and other trees. What makes this park so magnificent is its history. Specifically, 400 archeological sites and 600 cliff dwellings of the Pueblo people dating back between 600 and 1300 AD. The cliff dwellings appear to be carved out of the very cliff nook itself.
